Nelson Automotive Challenged Park Ridge Community Fund with Matching Grant

Eric Nelson, owner of Nelson Automotive, gives $7,000 Check to Gail Haller, executive director, Park Ridge Community Fund for matching challenge at year end.

Eric Nelson, owner of Nelson Automotive, a Maine South grad, Park Ridge resident, and member of the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce, promised that if the Park Ridge Community Fund raised $7,000 by December 31, 2011, he would match it!

"Park Ridge stepped up to the challenge and more than $25,000 came in during the last 2 weeks of the year!" stated executive director, Gail Haller. "So I drove out to Nelson Automotive and picked up the check from Eric!"

There are so many important causes that ask for your support these days, but a gift to the Park Ridge Community Fund will not only make a difference – it will make a difference right here at home. For more than half a century, through good times and bad, local business owners and residents have generously helped the Park Ridge Community Fund protect the wellbeing of our community. With one convenient gift, a wide array of service organizations and care providers are able to make life better, neighbor to neighbor.

The Park Ridge Community Fund is a locally-run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Your one gift supports local charities and non-profit organizations that provide medical research, rehabilitation, health care education, safe emergency housing and care for women and their children; support for the sick and their families; services to help seniors stay engaged and healthy, and activities to provide wholesome outlets for kids and teens. And that’s just the beginning!

To learn more about the many services your gift makes possible and to donate safely online, please visit www.prcommunityfund.org. Checks may be mailed to Park Ridge Community Fund, 720 Garden Street, Park Ridge, IL 60068.

"Thank you to Joe Bredemann for his generosity, the Kaminiskis and the Olsons too, which covered the cost of the meal," stated Gail Haller, executive director for the Park Ridge Chamber. "I love how the Chamber members always step up to the plate in providing for their own community."

Volunteers who served were: Theresa, Rich Olson with son Matt Berg; Frank & Maureen Kaminski; Mary & Luke Tremont; Wes Davis; Dave and Judy Donovan; Sheri Roche; Gail Haller; Lori Annetti; Wanda Wilson; Lynn Harvey; Rand and Cheryl Schweizer; Dick and Karen Larsen; and Ulyana Lysak.

11/25/11: Winterfest

Santa Claus arrived on a decorated firetruck driven by Park Ridge FireFighters and escorted by Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Sorensen while Maine South Marching Band played 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town'.

Greeted by Mayor Dave Schmidt who was holding his granddaughter, Sophia, Santa was whisked into the library where hundreds of excited children eagerly awaited his arrival.

The Willows Academy Chamber Choir sang Christmas Carols in Renaissance dresses while Brownies sang in front of the historic Pickwick Theatre.

Four wreathed trolleys sponsored by the Park Ridge Chamber and BMO Harris Bank drove around Park Ridge so passengers could see the decorated houses, luminaries lining the streets, and all the beautifully lit trees.  The luminaries were sponsored by the Chamber and put in place with Boy Scout Troop 3 out of Mary, Seat of Wisdom, along with Ed Graham, City Public Works. The Chamber treated the scouts to a pizza party at Perry's Pizzeria afterwards.

The fire station at Devon and Cumberland had an open house with Chief Zywanski pouring coffee and hot cider for the guests.

The perfect, mild weather made for a magical evening in Park Ridge with merchants staying open later and giving away cookies, hot chocolate, cider, pizza and more.

11/25/11:  Winterfest Best Decorated House Award

Jenny Kulik at 405 S. Prospect was excited and honored to have her house voted by the Park Ridge Garden Club as the '2011 Winterfest Best Decorated House'.

The Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce held the annual contest for the third year in a row.  "The Chamber awards $100 of Chamber Gift Certificates to the winner of the Best Decorated House' said Gail Haller, executive director of the chamber, 'to encourage the homeowners to decorate South Prospect and South Courtland for the trolley routes and the luminaries for Winterfest, always on Black Friday. The winner receives a yard sign and bragging rights for a whole year!'

The City of Park Ridge makes the yard sign for the winner while the Park Ridge Garden Club has several judges who select the house before Winterfest starts.

Jenny and Rick Kulik with their 8 year old son, Ryan, said they'll be spending the Chamber gift certificates at the smaller, local stores in Park Ridge.

11/12/11:  Holiday Lights Installation Day

Mother Nature gave us a perfect day on Saturday, November 12, and hundreds of volunteers came together to light up the trees in Park Ridge for the holidays.

Representatives from all the Indian Scouts, Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, Rotary, Taste of Park Ridge, and Chamber of Commerce worked to plan, manage, and guide the event.

Thirteen restaurants donated lunch: Affresco Restaurant; All on the Road Catering; D'Agostino's Pizza & Pub; Domino's Pizza; Einstein Bros Bagels; Hay Caramba; Jasons Deli; Lisa's Homemade Italian Ice; Noodles & Co.; Paninos Pizzeria; Perry's Pizzeria; Rocky Mtn Chocolate Factory; and Tasty Pup.

Holiday Lights planning committee were Scott Richter (Indian Scouts Federation), Jackie Mathews (Park Ridge Chamber President), Theresa Olson (Park Ridge Chamber President-Elect), Dean Patras (Taste of Park Ridge), Mike McGrath (Kiwanis/City of Park Ridge), Mel Thillens (Indian Scouts), Bonnie Trenkle, (Kiwanis), Jim Butler (Boy Scouts), Tony Tripp (Kiwanis/Photographer), John Warnimont (Rotary/Electrician), and Gail Haller (Park Ridge Chamber Executive Director).  Thanks to the previous years’ work put in by Jim Bruno and Ed Latko from the Indian Scouts, the 2011 planning committee was able to layer onto what was already learned from them.

Winterfest is the day after Thanksgiving.  For a schedule of activities go to Park Ridge Winterfest 2011 which is on the Chamber’s website.
